For a detailed description of each table and the columns available, please have a look at the feed at the Azure Marketplace. You can find specifics on data types, browse the data and download it in CSV or XML format. You can also import the feed directly into PowerPivot or Tableau. While there is no source code for the project, there is a project which contains an Excel spreadsheet with possibly outdated specifications document.

Rob Collie has also written a great post entitled "The Ultimate Date Table" on how to use the feed. Please visit his blog if you are experiencing any difficulties:

Range Queries

Currently the DataMarket site does not allow filtering the data set using >, <, >= and <=. However, the data feed can be manually filtered by using OData URL constructs. Please refer to: http://www.bp-msbi.com/2011/10/range-queries-with-azure-datamarket-feeds/ for more information and examples of limiting the date range in PowerPivot.

Tables

The DateStream feed currently consists of a number of date tables:
  • BasicCalendarEnglish
  • BasicCalendarUS
  • BasicCalendarDanish
  • BasicCalendarHebrew
  • BasicCalendarGerman
  • BasicCalendarBulgarian
  • ExtendedCalendar

BasicCalendarEnglish

This table contains generic English language columns helping with creating a basic, all-purpose date dimension. The table aims to provide a generally accepted, standardized view of a typical calendar.

BasicCalendarUS

This United States localized table contains all columns needed for a basic date dimension as it could be used in the USA. The only difference to the English version is the week, which starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

BasicCalendarDanish

Translated by Rafi Asraf, this table contains the translation of the basic calendar table in Danish.

BasicCalendarHebrew

Translated by Rafi Asraf, this table contains the translation of the basic calendar table in Hebrew.

BasicCalendarGerman

This table contains the translation of the basic calendar table in German.

BasicCalendarGerman

This table contains the translation of the calendar table in German.

BasicCalendarBulgarian

This table contains the translation of the calendar table in Bulgarian.

ExtendedCalendar

This table contains not only basic columns, but also some less popular ones which can be used for more advanced analytics. Therefore, it is wider than the BasicCalendar tables. A BasicCalendar table can be extended by creating a relationship on DateKey with the ExtendedCalendar table. In general, not all columns from ExtendedCalendar will be useful in all projects. In most cases filtering the table to import only the required columns will be advisable. The table is not locale and language specific.
